The customers of Sainsbury’s Mere Green excelled themselves on Friday 1st July 2016 and donated over £1100 to our Charity Fund which was absolutely incredible for a one day collection. Sainsbury’s management said that it was the highest amount ever raised on one day. Five members of the friends took part, Elaine Coulthard (The Patient) Tom Webster (The Doctor) Les Coulthard, Merryl Graham and Josephine Hardy.
Numerous customers praised Good Hope and it staff and said that they or members of their family had received excellent care and how grateful they were to be close to such a good hospital. This message has been passed on to the staff and is much appreciated by them.
The Friends Team started collecting at 10:00am and finished at 8:00pm.
We would also thank the Manager and Staff of Sainsbury’s for their support of the Friends.
Everyone who attended the Friends Country & Western ‘Hoedown’ said that they really enjoyed the evening. While our collective prowess in the dancing department left a little to be desired and we were all shattered after learning 3 different dances, it was a great experience and we were delighted to learn a new skill. Many thanks to The ‘Anker Valley Boys’ (& their wives) for making the evening a success along with ‘Helen’ and her team from Sutton Coldfield RFC plus Denise & Georgia from BJ’s Catering, the Crackling Pork was to die for and the Roast Beef was equally good. All profits from the evening will go to the Friends Community Fund for the Benefit of Good Hope Patients.
The Friends ran a Tombola and Cake sale which was very well supported and raised over £300 for their community fund which will be used solely for the benefit of Good Hope patients. Thank you to all the members of the public who bought cakes and had a go on the Tombola, congratulations to all the winners especially the little girl who won ‘Bruno.’ A massive vote of thanks is also owed to Martin Pedley of ‘Boldmere Traders’ and his team who organised the event and made sure everything ran smoothly. It was a pleasure to listen to the sets by various local singers and musicians and we look forward to attending again next year.
Many thanks to members of CrossFit B76 for donating the proceeds of their monthly fund raising day to the Friends Community Fund. The total amount came to £80 which will be used for the benefit of the patients of Good Hope Hospital.
The latest Book Table ran from Monday 25th April until Monday 2nd May 2016 and raised over £55 for the Friends Charity Fund which is most appreciated. In all over 100 books were ‘Bought, Borrowed or Exchanged during the period the Table was in operation. We will shortly need another supply of good quality books, paperbacks or hardback’s – anyone who has some they would like to donate can bring them to the table during w/c Monday 23rd May 2016. (Please leave in the collection boxes underneath) If you have a large quantity use the ‘Contact Form’ and we will arrange a collection.
A heart-felt thank you to the customers of Sainsbury’s Mere Green who donated a total of £427 to our Charity Fund last Sunday 2nd May 2016. Four members of the friends took part, Elaine Coulthard (The Patient) Tom Webster (The Doctor) Les Coulthard and Josephine Hardy. The wind was bitter that day and Elaine said that come 4:00pm she had never been so cold. However, the generosity of the shoppers and their supportive comments made it all worthwhile. We would also thank the Manager and Staff of Sainsbury’s for their support of the Friends.
Thank you to everyone who visited the Book Table last week, it was good to see that people were exchanging books as well as donating new supplies. In all some 150 books were bought, borrowed or exchanged. In total we raised over £60.00 which is a little less than the average of £0.50 per book that we hoped to achieve. This will go towards our appeal for the ‘Extracorporeal Shock Wave Machine’ where we need to raise £9000 in total. This machine is needed by the Orthopaedic Department to improve the range of treatments they can offer. It is particularly effective for musculoskeletal conditions where major connective tissues attach to bones, eg rotator cuffs in shoulders, tendonitis and also urological conditions. This machine not only reduces need for surgery but avoids painful injections.
The Book Table will run for one week a month for the next few months, so watch out for the announcements on social media. Thank you again to everyone who visited last week.
Suzanne Webb & Tom Webster manning the Tombola Stall at Good Hope Hospital yesterday afternoon. A big thank you to all the people who bought tickets or made donations. The money raised will go towards purchasing those extra items which are not provided by the NHS but which make a stay in hospital much more comfortable.
The Friends ‘Book Table’ will be up and running again later this month – more details will be posted soon. The planning for the ‘Country & Western Hoedown‘ is now complete and the ‘Friends’ are taking bookings – numbers are limited to 180 so don’t miss out reserve your table now. We would also like to express our thanks to ‘Sutton Coldfield RFC ‘and ‘Simon Yeo’ in particular for their help and support in organising the event.
Tom Webster, The Friends Treasurer, has made a purpose build Tombola Drum together with number discs and prize cards. It has been a work of love for Tom who is dedicated to fund raising for the hospital – in all it is over a weeks solid work. He also enrolled his neighbours who made the ‘Prize Cards.’
We will be testing the new equipment on Tuesday 1st March 2016 between 10am and 4pm so if you are coming to the hospital that day come and see us in the ‘Richard Salt’ entrance by the lifts. It could be your lucky day and there are some great prizes to be won. All proceeds go towards buying additional items or equipment for the benefit of patients and staff.
